The challenges of switching from on-demand transport to zero-emission transport
● Air and noise pollution in urban environments is a major public health and ecological emergency on which we can immediately take concrete action.
● Paris demonstrated this during the Games: developing soft mobility and public transport, reducing the number of vehicles on the road and depolluting unavoidable business fleets, makes the city immediately healthy and breathable.
● On-demand transport in particular is an essential service for the public, but also the main polluter of passenger transport services, as it still uses the vast majority of polluting vehicles (diesel, petrol or hybrid). (1)
A simple action: relay the message to move the sector towards zero emissions
⮕ As a principal, you can quickly switch the on-demand transport sector (Taxis & VTC) to zero-emissions (2) without changing your internal rules: simply make it known that you are starting, or will start, to favor zero-emission vehicles when they are available with the same quality and at the same price.
⮕ This simple message is the decisive lever to get drivers to “switch” in turn, i.e. to choose a Crit’Air 0 solution (100% electric with hydrogen or battery) when they next renew their vehicle, which will enable massive and rapid depollution of this fleet of over 50,000 vehicles in the Paris region. Join the movement and turn the on-demand transport sector on its head now, by letting people know that your organization, as a complement to or at least partial replacement for its current polluting on-demand transport services :
- has started or will start using a zero-emission service, or
- has initiated or will initiate a referencing process for a zero-emission service, or
- will increase, or propose a deliberation to increase, the weighting of the environmental criterion in its next call for tenders for these contracts [e.g.: 20% for the City of Paris, 15% for the Senate], when it is available with the same quality and at the same price.

On July 4, 2024, leveraging the historic commitment of Paris 2024, Hype, the Official Exclusive Taxi Supporter of the Games, is launching the #2024jeBASCULE initiative with the support of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games Organizing Committee. This campaign aims to clean up these essential professional fleets and create a healthier, more breathable city.
On August 2, 2024, the first list of public and private entities mobilizing to strengthen the Games’ legacy will be released. These pioneers will announce their decision to start—or commit to starting—to prioritize zero-emission vehicles for their taxi and ride-hailing needs, provided they are available with the same quality and price.
